Isabella the Belle of Ironwood
Isabella: The Belle of Ironwood is my debut novel. I self published in 2010 with Dorrance Publishing. The story centers around 15 year old Isabella who knows her life will change when she leaves the comforts of her Caribbean home for Louisiana to wed her betrothed, a French nobleman in New Orleans. An unexpected chilling turn of events lands her in the heart of the deep south as she is kidnapped upon reaching Louisiana and sold into slavery. The young woman struggles immensely with the darker side of humanity, yet forges friendships and finds love over the course of several years as a slave. Her resolve to escape and find her way back home grows stronger with each passing year. She weds freedman Thomas Paine who helps her find her way back to freedom. Through surprising twists and turns, the novel explores ideas of freedom and bondage and offers an interesting perspective on America during the nation’s most tumultuous time.
